When you are ready to begin editing, use the checklists provided in this book. First, assess the memorandum’s organization. For evaluating the memorandum’s overall organization, you should print the document and review the hard copy. You will likely miss things if you edit solely on the computer screen. Reviewing a document on a computer screen may be fine when editing sentences or short paragraphs, but the cramped space of the computer screen makes getting a feel for and reviewing the structure of the whole document difficult. Once you are satisfied with the organization, work paragraph by paragraph, systematically correcting mistakes and improving the memorandum’s clarity. Carefully review each paragraph several times, with each review focusing on the items in the checklists.
